I used many Postmodern Principles in my collage including; appropriation, juxtaposition, layering, interaction of text and image and recontextualization. I layered specific items to add a contrast with them and the background. For example, the gold man in the right hand corner wouldn’t ‘pop’ out as much without the layer cut out in the similar shape behind it.
The idea behind the collage is the complete opposite of man-made objects. The collage has men made out of land (maps, crowds, scenery) and words, for example power, that can describe a man. The focal point is in the bottom left where the silhouette of a man’s face is surrounded by legs, almost looking like they exploded out of him. Pieces of art generally confuse people at first and make them think even harder and that is what this piece does. It may seem confusing until the obvious use of men and earth.
